How to get to Atlantic City cheap: New Jersey Transit AC Line vs. Car

Mostly when I go to A.C. I drive. I'm not saying that driving is the best way to get to Atlantic City but it's definitely the most convenient. I decided to track my latest trip's full price and then figure out how much it would have cost if I went by train. One of the biggest leaks for A.C. poker playing is expenses to and from the city or overnight hotels. I live in South Jersey and round trip mileage was 105.9 miles.

Atlantic City By Car (Round Trip):
Total Miles: 105.9 mi
Amount of Gas used: ~1/2 tank
Price of Gas: ~$20
Number of Tolls: 4
Total Toll Fees: $8

Total Time : 2 hr 33 min
Total Cost : $28

(This does not account for late night, after session driving with deer and I'm not the feeling the most alert; an intrinsic cost not to be forgotten.)

Atlantic City By Train NJ Transit AC Line(Round Trip):
Driving Miles to Train Station: 20 mi
Time Taken to Drive to Station: 23 min
Gas Price for 20 mi: $3.60
Round Trip Train Ticket Price: $7.50 (individual not student/weekly/monthly rate)
Time On Train: 51 min
Shuttle to Casino: Free from station.
Casino to Station: Walk or $6 cab.

Total Time on Travel (Drive to Station and Train round trip): 2 hr 26 min
Total Cost w/o cab: $11.10
Total Cost w/ cab : $17.10

Results:
Taking the train is $16.90 cheaper without a cab or $10.90 cheaper with a cab.
Time is exactly the same as long as you time your train departures and returns appropriately.

Bottom Line: If you drive to Atlantic City take NJ Transit AC Line otherwise make sure you car pool with a bunch of friends so that you can split the costs.

Being A Poker Degenerate: Florida Vacation

Most people when they go on vacation they go to get away. I'm not saying I'm any different but what I will say is that I miss poker. I've only been in Siesta Keys, FL for 3 days but I miss playing. I intentionally left my laptop at home and am in poker withdrawal.

Via my blackberry I've found an Indian Casino that spreads a few NL games in Tampa but fat chance if I'm getting away there. Why is it that us poker player need to be in the game?

I've technically got everything I need to be happy. Gorgeous girlfriend, plenty of cold Bud Light Lime and all the local seafood I can get my hands on but I'm still missing my edge. That little competitive edge we all need. Luckily I got in some strip crazy eight s last night (where I ran like god and got her down to nothing in the last hand) but I still want more. Here's to some wagering at mini golf tonight after Easter Dinner. And maybe a quick stop at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, just to "check it out." :)

Introduction To The Blog

Hey guys my name is Kirk and I decided to write this blog to highlight some of the funnier sides of poker. Sometimes I'll write some in depth info about hands played or my bankroll status. Sometimes I might just bitch about all the muppets at the tables playing 1/2 down at Harrahs. Either way, this should be a fun ride. I hope everyone enjoys the experience.

I play online 4 tabling 10nl or 25nl tables at Bodog. My name's Tddy_KGB so feel free to drop me a line or donk off some chips. Live, I mostly play at Harrah's 1/2. When I get sick of grinding out against the nitard old bastards I head to Caesar's for the drunk party crowd.

Current Bankroll Online: $448.91
Current Live Bankroll: $4,005.00
